Maintaining your oral health is a major contributor to leading a healthy lifestyle. Keeping up with your oral hygiene helps to ensure that your teeth and gums are healthy, and your breath is fresh. Dr. Noah Belman and our team at Belman Dental Centre have put together some tips to help you improve your oral hygiene.
This might seem obvious, but always remember to brush your teeth at least two times a day. We recommend purchasing a toothpaste with fluoride in it, as it helps to strengthen your teeth and prevent dental caries. Brush your teeth with circular back and forth motions to remove all food particles. Don’t forget to clean your tongue, too! Brushing your teeth is one of the easiest ways to prevent gum disease, tooth decay and cavities.
Some food particles can get stuck in the gaps between your teeth and below the gum line. Such particles are hard to reach with a toothbrush, but can be removed with dental floss. Cut about 18-24 inches of dental floss and wind it around your fingers. Glide it gently between the teeth. You should floss at least once a day to maintain good oral hygiene!
Gargle mouthwash after brushing your teeth. Mouthwash helps to remove excessive acid in your mouth, and balances out the pH levels.
Sugary foods are a major risk to oral health as they stimulate the growth of bad bacteria. This type of bacteria converts the sugar into an acid that corrodes the teeth causing cavities and tooth decay.
